Artist Statement
I am the anti-thesis of the “La mort de l’auteur” of Roland Barthes where the artist takes the back seat in the interpretation of artworks. Nevertheless, my audience are very welcome to conjure interpretations of their own looking at my artworks. I paint colors. This may sound oddly commonsensical for most. The colors in my artworks are selected to create a visual dialogue with one another and with textures found on the piece. The forms, planes, textures, and mixed media found in objects invite the eyes to explore every corner of the canvas. I know that the painting is right when every harmony, pulse, and even dissonance all fall into place. I believe creating art is a form of prayer or meditation wherein one communes with the divine to achieve centeredness. Hence, my artworks are very much influenced by symbolism as I am also a student of the esoteric arts.
